Just wondering, is BMI something you use as a scale for health?
Yes, it’s a tool to measure health. However, it’s not precise and oftentimes not reliable. But to the average person it can be a good indicator to give you a general idea about your health, whether you’re underweight, healthy, over weight, obese, or severely obese.
The reason it’s not very accurate is because it only takes into account sex, age, height, and weight. It doesn’t take into consideration your body fat composition. A body builder with a body fat% of < 10% is fit, but would be classified as obese using the BMI tool. While a small, petite woman who is very slender can have body fat at 30% but be classified as “underweight” or “healthy”. As you can see it’s not very reliable. But that doesn’t mean you can’t use it to your advantage to make necessary changes to your health. :)
