GMOs give you cancer, and spontaneous pregnancy in males, and then you die.
GMOs give you cancer, and spontaneous pregnancy in males, and then you die.
When even the squirrels avoid GMO corn, you should probably listen. #GMO #monsanto
I sent this around facebook.. might as well keep it going here… #GMO is the devil #occupymonsanto
I’m so tired of seeing pseudo-science on my dash. Show me an actual study.
Squirrels are science.
mfw people think GMO’s are actually good for you.. lol
This is gorgeous. Can someone send me a link to a tutorial how to braid hair like this? Idk how to braid. :( I fail at being a female LOL.
Ugh. What I also don’t like in that video is she talks about who is cardiometabolically healthy or not healthy.
She says that clicnically there are obese people who are cardiometabollically healthy. (~25%)
Okay… but the clicnical definiton of obese = “anyone with a BMI over 30”
As we know…. BMI is complete bullshit.
So that in itself is misleading information. You could have a BMI of 25 (normal) and your body fat% can be in the obese range. Therefor you’d considered “not obese” and “cardiometabolically uneahlthy” or if you’re a body builder with 10% body fat% you would be considered “obese” and “cardiometabollicaly healthy”.
That’s what irks me the most about this video. gkfhgkldfjg
It’s contradicting the point that she’s try to make because the info itself is not properly analyzed.
What’s Wrong with Fat? by Dr. Abigail Saguy (UCI, April 17, 2013) (by feedmeimcranky)
Please watch the whole thing. At the end, Dr. Saguy, when asked a question about weight loss being prescribed to especially older cardiology patients, says:
…based on the data they shouldn’t be recommending weight loss. At all. And yet, [a cardiologist at UCLA] tells me she has fellow cardiologists come to her and say, “Well, do you really believe your data?”
[to which she replies] “Well yeah, I have no reason not to believe my data.”
Or [her fellow cardiologists say] “I know what the data suggests, but I just can’t bring myself to stop recommending weight loss. I know there is no scientific basis for it, but…”
This comes from people’s prejudice.
We live in a society that values thinness, so we assume that it must be better for everything. And it’s just not supported.
I didn’t watch the entire video yet so apologies if this sounds a bit ignorant at the moment. Reblogging this to watch later. But based on the little tid bit quoted above… it’s not really fair to compare “fatness” on a medical level to a social level and come up to a conclusion.
It’s blatantly clear that excess amounts of body fat is a symptom of medical issues, diseases, and mortality. Controlling that can help decrease medical costs, diseases, and death overall.
This has nothing to do with how society views fatness, although the two are influenced and associated with each other. “Fat acceptance” has it’s place in a social perspective, but not in a medical perspective.
I like her quote, “well what’s wrong with fat? It’s depends which rose coloured glasses you’re looking through.” — and this is true.
LET’S TALK ABOUT BODY POLICING, NEGATIVITY AND SHAMING OTHERS
Okay, so this picture showed up on my FB as an ad for a bikini body ready page, and I made the ultimate mistake of clicking on the picture and viewing some of the comments. Let me just say that FB and Youtube comments firmly solidify my misanthropy.
Critiques of this woman (whom I don’t know at all, and who wasn’t identified in the post) took three different forms.
- The first (and least offensive) kind was about her poses. So okay, the poses are a bit awkward, but she is just trying to showcase the body she has worked for. Plus, after she took this picture she walked away and kept living her life, so your argument is moot.
- The second style of critique was that she was too manly. GENDER IS BINARY AND MUSCLES ARE ONLY FOR MEN SO SHE MUST BE A MAN EW GROSS. Heaven forbid we break out of societal norms for masculinity and femininity and have bodies and lifestyles however makes us happy. Motherfuckers, let’s move into the 21st century, shall we?
- The last style of critique, and the most prevalent, was all about how she looked sickly and too thin and MEN WANT CURVES AND SOME MEAT ON THE BONES. Yes, because the only reason this woman ever got into shape was so that she could please the patriarchy and be attractive for the men around her to view. I’m sorry, but even if she DID work for this body in order to be attractive to men, I’m sure it was targeted toward men who value her aesthetic. Between all the men (and women! Let’s not be heteronormative here) in the world, I guarantee you that every level of fitness and non-fitness is a personal preference for someone. So let’s not make sweeping statements. Also, I like to think she doesn’t give a flying fuck about people who would dismiss her just because of her body.
Last side note: Although there were a few people with kind remarks and praise, the majority of “positive” comments were sexualizing and degrading to her as a person. Let me argue once again: SHE DOES NOT EXIST FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE. Just because she looks great and took a picture of herself, does not mean she is consenting to your catcalls and wolf whistles.
Bottom line, it is way past my bedtime but I took the time to write this all anyway because it made me so angry that I couldn’t sleep. Can we all just aim to be at peace with our own bodies, and stop tearing down others for looking different from our own personal ideals? Okay? Okay.
This has been a rant.
^^^ extremely well said! My contribution:
[insert: ‘I don’t want to live on this planet anymore’ meme]
ALL BODIES ARE GOOD BODIES. IF YOU DON’T LIKE A BODY, DON’T LOOK LIKE THAT BODY AND SIMPLY CONTINUE ON WITH YOUR LIFE AS YOU WANT TO LIVE IT.
Meh. Let’s all start attacking people’s opinions now. Whenever you publish something over the internet, there are always going to be people who disagree and agree with those opinions. No need to oppress them.
Although bashing is never okay, it’s fine to think someone’s body looks “too manly” or “not curvy enough” or “too thin” or “unhealthy” etc. because these opinions are expressions of our personal tastes and appeal. They are completely subjective.
Bashing someone for a negative opinion is just as bad as the person bashing another for their body image. So let’s avoid trying to feel self-righteous about ourselves and get off that miniature high horse, shall we? Because we all end up looking like hypocrites in the end.
All of us have negative opinions of others, don’t even try to front that you don’t. They might not be towards someone’s outer image, but perhaps they’re towards someone’s eating habits, someone’s religious stance, someone’s fashion statements, someone’s thoughts and idea… etc.
If someone wants to think some woman looks manly. Let them. That’s their opinion and taste, not yours.
Less of this:
A: ew I think that body is too manly, women need to have curves, she looks anorexic
B: omg what is wrong with you stop body shaming, you have no right to say those kinds of comments about someone else’s body! how dare you!
More of this:
A: ew I think that body is too manly, women need to have curves, she looks anorexic
B: i can see why you feel that way, I disagree with you though. I think her body looks awesome, she worked really hard for her goals. i actually find the muscular look to be super sexy. to each his own!
Wear proper fitting clothing for your body shape. Love handles form from the horizontal edge of clothing which squeezes the torso area. Wearing the right fitted clothing will eliminate 98% of that.
i bought these cute sneaks that are super comfy (and were on sale) but they’re this hideous pink colour. lol.
and i can’t find anything to wear them with. I don’t have a basic black or white hoodie (aka i cant find them/they’re in the laundry basket)
:(( #firstworldproblems
damnit, i wish these sneaks came in a basic white/gray colour not pink
If it’s something you really reallly realllllyyyy want to do then don’t worry about not being good at Chemistry. There will always be hard courses. I fail chem a few times, but eventually passed it. I got help. I put in more hours into studying. I actually practiced A LOT of problems and went to my classmates for help, study groups, etc.
So if you really want it, go for it. And do your best in a tough course. Chemistry is only 2-3 classes out of 20+ classes that you’ll be taking in all of your semesters combined.
You don’t lose weight based on calories in vs calories out. An online calculator can’t tell you what you “calorie goal” is… only your body can tell you that through proper working hunger signals.
